What does ChatGPT say about my business?
Updated 24 July 2026
Open a fresh chat in a private window. Ask three questions: the one your buyers ask, what it knows about your business, and whether your business is worth it. Ask again with web search on. Do the same on Claude, Gemini and Perplexity. You are reading for two things: are you named, and who is named instead.
Open a fresh chat first
ChatGPT remembers your old chats. It knows you own the business. It answers you more kindly than it answers a stranger. Your buyers get the stranger version. Open a private window, or log out, so you get the stranger version too.
The whole check takes about fifteen minutes by hand. Keep a note open. Write down every business name you see.
The three questions to ask
What's the best [what you sell] for [who buys it]?
What do you know about [your business]?
Is [your business] worth it?
Ask them in this order. Use your own words. The order matters more than the wording.
- 1.The question your buyers ask, like best bike shop for commuters. Don't name your business. This shows whether AI connects you to your market.
- 2.What do you know about [your business]? This shows what AI believes about you: true, old, or made up.
- 3.Is [your business] worth it? This shows the reputation your buyers hear.
Ask twice: memory, then web search
ChatGPT answers in one of two ways. The first is memory: public pages it read during training, a year old or more. The second is live search: pages that rank today. The two answers can disagree.
Ask your three questions in a normal chat first. Then turn web search on. Ask again. A business that only shows up with search on is missing from memory. Fresh mentions on pages AI trusts fix that faster than anything else.
Do the same on Claude, Gemini and Perplexity
Same questions, different sources
ChatGPTWhere your buyers ask the most.
ClaudeAnswers from memory and from live search.
GeminiLeans on Google results and Google Business Profiles.
PerplexitySearches the web every time. Shows the pages it used.
The other three sit at claude.ai, gemini.google.com and perplexity.ai. Perplexity and ChatGPT answer without an account. Claude and Gemini ask for a free sign-in. You do not need to pay.
The sources differ, so the answers differ. A business can be the top pick on Perplexity and invisible on ChatGPT. Check before you assume.
How to read the answers
What's the best bike shop for commuters?
“Golden Wheel is the usual pick for commuters. Tune-ups are fast and prices are clear. Some riders mention long weekend waits.”
Read like a buyer, not like an owner. Four checks, in order:
- 1.Are you named? If not, write down who is. Those are the names AI trusts in your market.
- 2.Is anything wrong? Old prices, a closed location, a product you stopped selling.
- 3.Is anything bad true? A complaint that keeps repeating comes from a real page somewhere. Find that page.
- 4.Which pages does the answer link to? Those pages shape what AI says about you.
If you don't like what you read
A bad result has causes you can find. The full list is in Why doesn't ChatGPT recommend my business? The short version: the pages AI trusts don't mention you, or your website blocks AI, or your site never says plainly what you sell.
Every cause has a fix. Mentions take weeks to land. Site fixes take an afternoon. Start with the site fixes.
Questions
Is checking by hand really free?+
Yes. ChatGPT and Perplexity answer without an account. Claude and Gemini have free plans. The cost is your time: about fifteen minutes per round, and answers change, so one round is one snapshot.
What does the snuup check add over checking by hand?+
Scale and the technical part. We ask a dozen buyer questions on ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini and Perplexity, and we ask more than once, so you see the range instead of one lucky reply. We also read your website the way AI reads it. That finds the problems you can't see by asking questions, like a blocked crawler, and the check pairs every problem with a fix.
How often should I check?+
Once a month by hand is enough to catch changes. Check right after you apply fixes too. Run the snuup check again after a fix round to see what changed.
Can ChatGPT be wrong about my business?+
Yes. Old prices, closed locations and mixed-up business names all happen. The wrong fact comes from a page somewhere: an old listing, a stale profile, a dead page on your own site. Fix the page and the answer follows it.
Why does my own ChatGPT praise my business?+
ChatGPT remembers your chats. It knows the business is yours and leans your way. That is why every check on this page starts with a fresh chat in a private window. snuup asks from the outside, the way your buyers do.
